The Purvika Silver Antique Amulet Pendant

0 in stock.

Amuletic jewellery and amulet containers have been an important part of the Indian jewellery tradition because imparting protection to the wearer was an important function of jewellery. Amulet boxes (Taweez) that were worn on the persons body were popular - these evolved into elaborate forms of jewellery one example of which is seen here.

This necklace is a recreation of a centuries old design in all its glorious detail, using the exact same process of handcrafting used to create the original. The stunning pendant is in the shape of an amulet box , with a panel on top ornamented with a central `Kirtimukha'  (glory-face or grotesque-mask that wards off the evil) flanked by mythical birds and bands of floral creepers on either side.Crafted using `micro-repoussage' (a form of gilt and repousse technique unique to south Indian temple jewellery) every detail is reproduced with great clarity on the pendant.

Handcrafted in Sterling Silver (92.5%), and oxidised in a special process to give it an antique look this piece is a bold & bespoke piece of statement jewellery that teams effortlessly with indian/western wear..

(Note: The pendant can be bought alone or along with the chain of beads, prices for both are different and both options given)
